Word from the Wizard - March

A mining equipment manufacturer utilizing a large robotic tower system on a linear track recently reached out to the Wire Wizard Team to optimize their wire delivery setup. The system had a drum of bulk wire located on a platform attached to the tower, which made wire changeout difficult and unsafe for team members responsible for running the wire.

The Wire Wizard Engineering Team worked with the facility to develop a solution to move the drum to a safer and more accessible location, as well as reduce friction on the wire through a long run to the feeder (approx. 100 ft). Wire Guide Modules and Extra Flexible Conduit were utilized to relocate the drum from the tower platform to the floor. A 35' assembly of Guide Module FLEX was installed inside the cable carrier at the base of the tower, which then fed the wire vertically up to another 90° Guide Module assembly near the top of the tower. A conduit balancer and hanging bracket was used to suspend the Guide Module assembly. From there, another run of conduit delivered wire to the feeder. See the complete wire delivery setup below.

The end result? An easier to access drum that resulted in a safer drum changeout process with less downtime. Additionally, with the Guide Module system in place the wire pull force at the wire feeder was reduced from to 7 lbs 3 oz to only 2 lbs 8 oz.
